  • This year's booklet contains several changes, in both format and new regulations. A few of the more significant new regulations include the following:

    • Annual hunting and fishing licenses are available at no cost to honorably discharged resident veterans with certified service-related disabilities of 30 percent or more, effective Jan.1, 2009.
    • A season for Eurasian collared and ringed turtle doves will run Nov.20 through Feb.28.
    • Resident Any-Season Whitetail permits will be valid statewide during any season with equipment legal for that season.
    • Resident Either-species/Either-sex Archery permits will be valid statewide.
    • No big game permit may be transferred to another person.
    • Big game or turkey permits for residents younger than 16 are half-price.
    • Special Hunt-Own-Land deer permits may be issued to a landowner’s or tenant’s siblings and lineal family members and spouses, regardless of residency.
    • Nonresident deer hunters are restricted to two adjacent deer management units.
    • Nonresident hunters are required to select one season (archery, muzzleloader, or firearms) at the time of application.
    • Scopes are allowed for early muzzleloader deer season.
    • Knapped broad heads allowed during the archery deer season.
    • Crossbows are allowed for deer hunting in the firearm season.

     

  • DOVE (Mourning, white-winged, Eurasian collared, and ringed turtle doves)

    • Season: Sept.1 - Oct. 14 and Nov 1-16, 2008
    • Area open: Statewide
    • Daily bag limit: 15
    • Possession limit: 30

    DOVE (Eurasian collared and ringed turtle doves only)

    • Season: Nov. 20, 2008 - Feb. 28, 2009
    • Area open: Statewide
    • Daily bag limit: No limit
    • Possession limit: No limit

 

  • 2008 Deer Season Dates:

    • Youth and Disability: Sept. 13 thru Sept. 21, 2008
    • Early Muzzleloader: Sept. 22 thru Oct. 5, 2008
    • Archery: Sept. 22 thru Dec. 31, 2008
    • Early Firearm (DMU 19 only): Oct. 11 - Oct.19, 2008
    • Regular Firearm: Dec. 3 - Dec. 14, 2008
    • Firearm Extended Whitetail Antlerless Season: Jan.1 thru Jan.4, 2009 ( Open for Units 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 19 only)
    • Special Extended Whitetail Antlerless Season: Jan. 5 thru Jan. 11, 2009 (Open north of highways K-9 and US-24 in Units 7 and 8 only)
    • Archery Extended Whitetail Antlerless Season (DMU 19 only): Jan. 5 thru Jan. 31, 2009
    • Shooting Hours: One-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset.

     

ANTELOPE

Firearm & muzzleloader permit application deadline: June 13, 2008;
Archery permit deadline: Oct. 30, 2008

2008 Antelope Season Dates:

  • Firearm Season: Oct. 3 thru Oct. 6, 2008
  • Archery Season: Sept. 20 thru Sept 28 & Oct. 11 thru Oct. 31, 2008
  • Muzzleloader Season: Sept. 29 thru Oct. 6, 2008
  • Shooting Hours: One-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset.

    • TURKEY

 

  • 2008 SPRING TURKEY:

    Deadline to apply for a Unit 4 permit is February 15th, 2008.

    • (application information will be online the middle of January).
    • Regular Season (firearm/archery): April 9 - May 31, 2008
    • Archery Only Season: April 1 - 8, 2008
    • Youth Season (16 and younger, no minimum age): April 1 - 8, 2008
    • Shooting Hours: One-half hour before sunrise to sunset.
    • Legal Equipment: long, recurve or compound bows and shotguns and muzzleloading shotguns 20 gauge or larger using shot sizes 2 through 9.
    • Limit: Any individual who has purchased a spring turkey permit is eligible for one second turkey game tag. Spring game tags are valid for Units 2 and 3 ONLY.

    2008 FALL TURKEY:

    • Season: Oct. 1 - Dec. 2 AND Dec. 15 - 31 AND Jan. 5 - 31, 2009.
    • Fall Turkey Permits in Units 1, 2, and 3 and game tags for Unit 2 may be purchased over the counter at any license vendor from July 1 thru Jan. 30, 2009.
    • No permits authorized in Unit 4.
    • Shooting Hours: One-half hour before sunrise to sunset.
    • Legal Equipment: Shotguns 20 gauge or larger using shot sizes 2-9; long, recurve or compound bows.
    • Limit: Each hunter may obtain no more than one turkey permit and three turkey game tags. Residents and nonresidents who purchase a turkey permit may also purchase as many as three turkey game tags valid in Unit 2 only. Fall turkey permits and game tags are valid for both male and female turkeys.


    FURBEARERS SEASONS

    HUNTING & TRAPPING

    • NOTE: All furbearer hunting, trapping, and running seasons begin at 12 noon on opening day and close at midnight of closing day.
    • Species: badger, bobcat, mink, muskrat, opossum, raccoon, swift fox, red fox, gray fox, striped skunk, weasel.
    • Season Dates (statewide): Nov. 12, 2008 - Feb. 15, 2009 Limit: No limit.

    BEAVER TRAPPING

    • Season Dates (statewide): Nov. 12, 2008 - March 31, 2009
    • Limit: No limit.
    • NO OPEN TRAPPING OR HUNTING SEASON ON ANY OTHER FURBEARERS

    RUNNING

    • Species: bobcat, opossum, raccoon, red fox, and gray fox.
    • Season Dates (statewide): March 1 - Nov. 1
    • Legal hours for running furbearers is 24 hours daily. Furbearers cannot be killed or taken during the running season. A furharvester license is required to run furbearers. It is illegal to possess any firearm or other hunting or trapping equipment while pursuing these animals during the running season.

    UPLAND GAME BIRDS

    PHEASANT

    • Season: November 1, 2008 - January 31, 2009
    • Youth Season: October 25-26, 2008
    • Area Open: Statewide
    • Daily Bag Limit: 4 cocks in regular season, 2 cocks in youth season
    • NOTE: Pheasants in possession for transportation must retain intact a foot, plumage, or some part that will determine sex.

    QUAIL

    • Season: November 8, 2008 - January 31, 2009
    • Youth Season: October 25-26, 2008
    • Area Open: Statewide
    • Daily Bag Limit: 8 in regular season, 4 in youth season

    PRAIRIE CHICKEN

    • Early Season (East zone only): Sept. 15 - Oct. 15, 2008
    • Daily Bag Limit: 2
    • Regular Season (East and Northwest zones): Nov. 15, 2008 - Jan. 31, 2009
    • Daily Bag Limit: 2
    • Regular Season (Southwest zone): Nov. 15, 2008 - Dec. 31, 2008
